Testosterone spray may help women fight dementia
Monash University in Australia has released results of a pilot study that indicates daily use of testosterone in spray form may ward off dementia.
Post-menopausal women suffer dementia and memory loss at twice the rate of men aged over 65. The rapid decline in testosterone production in women after menopause could be a factor.
Tracking the effort made by the brain to complete tasks, the research team noted that with daily use of testosterone spray, “less brain activation was required for the women to complete the tasks”.
The results will be presented at North American Menopause Society’s annual conference in San Diego and funding for a full trail has been established.
