Study looks at easing menopausal side effects
University Hospitals has begun a clinical-research study to examine the safety and efficacy of the anti-estrogen drug bazedoxifene combined with estrogen on relief of hot flashes and other menopausal side effects.
Previously published data suggests that the combination of estrogen and anti-estrogen drugs relieves symptoms, such as hot flashes and bone loss, without causing uterine bleeding.
The one-year treatment study hopes to enroll 30 women ages 40-64, with an intact uterus, who have started natural menopause in the past five years.
