Add a slice of ovary to your order of frozen eggs
Many women incur surgical menopause due to cancer treatment. But it seems that is no longer a closed door to motherhood. A 34 year old woman was able to conceive via IVF after having an “ovarian transplant“. Prior to her cancer treatment she had a slice of her ovary removed and then replaced once she got the cancer all clear. Two years later she conceived via IVF then again naturally. Apparently she has extra ovarian strips she can have replanted whenever she wants to boost her ovarian function. Does this mean she can beat menopause? Who knows.
But apparently there are 9 kids out there in the world conceived this way.
And it is now suggested that women could not only freeze their eggs but also a slice of their ovaries as insurance for the future.
All I can say is I am glad I am past those kind of decisions.
