It was only a matter of time I guess before someone decided to see if the symptoms women experience as they transition thru menopause effects their work performance. As if women are not already discriminated enough in the workplace ... Do we really need studies like this Dutch one looking at "the impact of menopausal symptoms on work ability" that claims "Menopausal symptoms are negatively associated with work ability and may increase the risk of sickness absence"? I mean what were they thinking? That this is going to help women in the 40-60 age bracket obtain employment more easily? Or did they think this would... »
About
Anthropologist Margaret Mead once said, “There is no more creative force in the world than a menopausal woman with zest.”
She might have meant “lemon peel” which is great for a myriad of things but I like to think she meant “keen enjoyment” as in “zest for living”.
Since there is nothing better than zest for living at any stage of your life, it is curious as to why she thought menopause had the edge on “creative force” amongst the zesty. But although I might ponder that thought for some time to come, I am not going to argue with her. I feel like a creative force. But this time is not macrame or hand built pottery I have the urge to try. It is Menopause Tracker.
I had the idea for Menopause Tracker back in 2005 but did nothing more than register the domain. I was too busy running my website development company building sites for other businesses to have time to build a site for a “sideline” business of my own. So the idea sat there until, during a get fit by 50 personal crusade, I started tracking my menstrual cycle for the first time in something like 30 years and I noticed it change. One minute it was its usual 28 days then it changed to 27 and then to 26 and stayed there. My get fit for 50 became get fit for Menopause. And I needed to expand my tool set for doing so.
I knew there were an overwhelming number of tools out there for tracking weight loss – some so complex that it would be a full-time job just entering the data for them. I knew all about tools for tracking Fertility – we had developed a custom BBT tracking tool for a client several years ago and I had had to learn in much greater detail that I had ever really cared to know about our bodies workings. But what tools were there to track fertility’s decline? None.
Which is why I am creating MenopauseTracker.com which will have menopause tracking tools. While in mid-development, I also decided to create this blog to track the news on menopause given it is being a Hot topic these days.
As I have said, I plan to have a Virgin Menopause. At present my only “sign” that it’s started is that my cycle has dropped to 26 days. Other than that, things are pretty normal and I plan to keep it that way.
Game on.
