Olay Pro-X better than Tretinoin? In more ways than one …

A study published in the February Issue of the British Journal of Dermatology reveals that Olay Pro-X performs just as well if not better than prescription Tretinoin cream aka Vitamin A/Retin A.

Many are skeptical of the claims but the report includes cold hard facts with images that cannot be denied.

Clearly Pro-X performed much better than Tretinoin by week 8 of the trial. By week 24, the time at which the impact of tretinoin has reportedly reached its limits, tretinoin was slightly ahead.

When comparing the products you have to consider:

1. Product cost

Pro-X is half the price of Tretinoin.

2. Cost or otherwise of repeated doctor visits

Pro-X is over the counter. Tretinoin is prescription only requiring ongoing doctor visits for initial consultation and prescription re-fills.

3. Side effects

Tretinoin is classified as a Pregnancy Class C drug by the FDA meaning it can hurt the fetus and is not recommended while breast feeding.

Both require use of a sunscreen.

I Finally Got Rid Of My Wrinkles Using Natural Products For Less Than $9!

My name is Barbie. I want to share my anti-aging story with you and hopefully save you from wasting money on all those products that promise to work but never really do.

I have to admit I do tend to lead the pack when it comes to anything new. Remember my moon landing in ‘65? Personally I think the outfit made my butt look big but, what the hell, the scales said zero! And that Nascar stint in ‘98? Almost the same outfit if you ask me. Ken said it was too masculine (read – can’t see my boosies!). And of course my presidential candidancy in ‘99 which inspired Hillary to try and emulate me? Another drab look. I’ve tried nearly every career on earth not to mention every outfit. In the early days some of it was to try and help me look more mature and less girlish but later it was more girlish and less mature. Smile, no smile, teeth, no teeth, coy look, direct gaze, hair up, hair down. I didn’t seem to be able to make up my mind!

But I turned 50 on 9 March and now the verdict is in. I want to feel girlish again. And I’ve tried and tried. Unfortunately, the results were never as good as I wanted them to be. Until one day, after advice from a total stranger and some research into plastic injection molding, I found a way to make myself look as good as the day I was launched! Here’s my story.

After reading countless ads about women like me (you know I think some of them are not even real?!!!), I found two products that looked too good to pass up… I used a Digital Camera and Photoshop. Yes. True. The camera does not lie!

1. Digital Camera

I got a free cell phone with a 3MP digital camera with my Virgin Mobile Phone plan. I read the manual and did some test shots. Not great but hey I wanted “free” and what can you expect with just 3MP? I could’ve used my Nikon D3x with a Nikkor 50 mm f/1.2 lens and Tiffen Warm Pro-Mist filter but that would be cheating, right?

2. Photoshop

I downloaded a free trial of PhotoShop CS4 Extended. I took one really bad photo of myself in bright sunlight as my Before image. Then I took another in more flattering light to work on as my After. I downloaded them to my Lenovo IdeaPad Y650C Notebook and I simply photoshopped my wrinkles away following the advice in a Photoshop book by Scott Kelly that I borrowed from my dermatologist. While I was at it, I made my eyes bluer and my teeth whiter! Okay, okay! I might have touched up my hair a little and hell, who can blame me for the ’60s blue eye shadow? Just a little bit of irony there.

I would not believe the change if I had not done it myself. Midge and all my Gal Pals say I look 50 years younger and my skin has a healthy glow to it. I can hardly believe it! I look in the mirror and my smile takes me back to ‘71 all over again.

It’s a great feeling to be able to share this with you and I just thank god that I learnt web design and a little LAMP programming to be able to do just that. And not to brag but even Ken is noticing the new youthful me and giving me a little bit more attention … Midge of course is lining up to get her face done and I’ll have to I guess as everyone knows she is only 4 years younger than me and how can I have a bestie that looks so much older? Dead give away that I’ve done some work, ain’t it girls! As for Ken, no-one cares what men look like do they?

Storyteller, Judith Black has a new act tackling the concept of menopause, beauty and age. In an article in the Salem News on 11 March 2009 , she is quoted as saying, ”Women go through menopause, and there is this change. You are no longer pheromone-scented. People treat you differently, and I don’t think we’re prepared for that.”

I have to say I thought of wrinkles, I thought of jowls, I thought of overall weight gain but scent? It never occurred to me that I would lose my “scent”. Why? Because I never really thought about having one. Sure I’ve read about the science of sexual attraction but when I think scent, I think perfume.

Apparently her show pokes some fun at the “Sexy at 60″ society rife in the western world. But instead of converting us to accept life as we know it, it may well trigger market demand for Menopause Pheromone Spray. And having amused myself by that thought I googled “menopause pheromone spray” and found an article in New Scientist dated 2005 about “Sex pheromone spray boosts senior romance ” which revealed Dr. Winnifred Cutler invented just such a spray but won’t say what’s in it because its a trade secret.

There’s been a fair bit of controversy about Dr. Culter and her formula relating to whether a spray can replicate natural phermones. Interestingly, Dr. Cutler has written a book on the subject Hormones and Your Health: The Smart Woman’s Guide to Hormonal and Alternative Therapies for Menopause due to release in April 2009.
