I love the first woman’s remarks “I am happy to say I don’t need men anymore. Thank you God”. She’s a hoot! Watch it.

But also listen.  Some interesting things are said about the impact of menopause:

1. Keep in shape. As your estrogen supply diminishes, your adrenal glands step up to generate more. If you are out of shape or, more importantly stressed, your adrenals are not going to do what they should be doing. So maybe before you reach for the BHRT, think about improving your adrenal function.

2. Vaginal dryness.  You can lubricate all you like but it won’t improve elasticity.  The only thing that will do that is topical estrogen.

3.  Watch out for anti-depressents.  They can kill your libido.  Doctors recently recommended to reduce Hot Flashes but you want to consider – Hot or Cold?

But like ye olde “A woman over age 40 has a better chance of being killed by a terrorist than of getting married”, just where did this come from?

The above NY Times article quotes a source which , if followed,  links to a 2007 paper on  A 60-Year-Old Woman With Sexual Difficulties. Hardly a representative sample.

Other sites reference a Stanford 2004 Survey.  That survey, conducted online,  involved 781 women. Again not a representative sample as cautioned by the Stanford people themselves. Of them, the  majority ie. 52% of women did not experience problems.

Others reference  a 2009 survey by Siecus, the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States. This time it was only 580 women. Apparently 45 percent reported a decrease in sexual desire after menopause, 37 percent reported no change and 10 percent reported an increase. Can anyone see the problem with that Math?  45 + 37 + 10 = 92%. So what did the other 8% say?  Who knows?  Bottom line is only 45% said they had a problem.  Down 3%.

Following this trend a survey done in 2024 of 241 women should show 0% have a problem.  And it probably will.  If talk of low libido in the over 50s female keeps up at this rate, the  boys in pharmaceuticals will have invented female Viagra and got it covered by health insurance!

So let’s do that Math.  That is 3.846153846 per week. 

Given only about 30% of women report always having an orgasm when they have sex with a partner, this means a lot of DIY is being prescribed. Up to it?
